FIDE America replicates ChessMom initiative!

The Confederation of Chess for America announced that they will replicate the FIDE ChessMom Pilot Program to the American continent!

The FIDE ChessMom initiative aims to support chess players by covering all expenses related to an accompanying caregiver during the Chess Olympiad in Budapest, Hungry in September.

In a fantastic move, CCA will now replicate these rules and financially support 5 female players who are mothers of children under 2 years old for the American Continental Women’s Championships in the Dominican Republic this November.

“Motherhood is an important decision in every woman’s life. We recognize our players put a lot of effort into getting back to the chess board after giving birth to their child. We must do our part. We really want them back playing as soon as possible. When FIDE launched this initiative, they urged the National and Continental Federation to review and adjust their regulations, if motherhood was not addressed. We are fixing this now. Being our Deputy, Francisco Cruz Arce, the leader of the FIDE project, it is the obvious move that America would be one of the firsts continents to join these efforts.” said Jose Carrillo Pujols President of CCA.

“For 2025 our Board of Directors will identify three or four major Continental Tournaments where we can provide the same support to our female players. Through our Diversity Commission at CCA, we will handle the adequate process and selection requirements.” continued Carrillo.

We are excited to see this initiative growing and making a difference worldwide. Many talented women have had to step back from their professional careers due to the costs of traveling with their children. The expanded support in 2025 offers renewed hope and opportunities for these remarkable chess players.

Thank you to everyone who supports and values this initiative. Together, we are making chess more inclusive and accessible for all.
