Today, the world celebrates the timeless game that connects us across borders, cultures, and generations. Chess teaches us strategy, resilience, and creativity – and most of all – it brings together a global community bound by shared passion.
As the FIDE Commission for Women’s Chess (WOM), we especially take this opportunity to celebrate and honour the incredible women who have shaped and continue to shape the chess world.
From legendary champions to rising stars, from tireless organizers, arbiters, and coaches to vibrant voices in commentary, streaming, photography, and advocacy – you are such a vital and irreplaceable part of the chess world.
We also recognize the many women who work quietly behind the scenes – as mothers, volunteers, mentors, and role models – helping to grow the game and make space for the next generation.
Let’s continue breaking barriers, lifting each other up, and ensuring that girls and women everywhere know: there is a place for you in chess.
