Self-Discovery workshop for Girls in Kakuma Refugee Camp

First Meeting of the Year at Girls Book Club in frame of the Chess4Protection girls club project: A Workshop on Self-Discovery and Goal-Setting

Our work in Kakuma Refugee Camp continues. We are glad to be cooperating with all the incredible girls who are part of our “Girls Club” project, and at the same time we feel responsibility for each and everyone of them. We want to use the time we have as productively as we can, and we do so not only by chess lessons, but with help of other tools – and the best tool for growth are books.

The first meeting of Girls Book Club this year was dedicated to exploring important themes of self-awareness, goal-setting, and the pursuit of happiness. Instead of a traditional book analysis, we held an interactive workshop designed to guide the girls toward better understanding themselves and making meaningful progress in their lives.

The session involved thought-provoking discussions, inspiring quotes from various books, and a special video that encouraged us to think deeply about the choices we make and the steps we take.

As we explored these ideas, the focus was not just on theoretical concepts but on actionable steps—just like in chess, where each move is strategic and calculated. The goal of this meeting was to empower the girls with the tools to plan effectively, set goals, and take the right steps to find happiness and personal fulfilment.

“I believe that asking the right questions is key to unlocking new possibilities and finding the path to being true to oneself,” says Natalia Ryzhenko (designer, book lover, and host of Girls Book Club). “This workshop was just the beginning of many more empowering and inspiring meetings to come.”
