2nd International Women’s Tournament for Chess Women’s Day in Germany!

From 3–8 March 2026, the town of Weißenhorn, Germany, will host the 2nd International Women’s Tournament Dedicated to International Women’s Day. The event is organised by the legendary grandmaster and coach Artur Jussupow, whose lifelong dedication to chess development gives the tournament particular depth, and ensures this will be truly a special event.

After the successful first edition in Augsburg, the second tournament promises to once again combine sporting ambition with a welcoming and supportive atmosphere.

An exceptionally strong field is already registered. Among the leading participants are:

  • IM Nataliya Buksa (UKR)
  • IM Deimantė Daulytė-Cornette (FRA), defending champion
  • IM Klaudia Kulon (POL)
  • WGM Boleslava Krasteva (BUL)
  • IM Laura Unuk (SLO)

With four IMs and eight WGMs already entered, and five players rated above 2300, the level of competition in Group A is going to be very high. At the same time, the tournament also provides opportunities for ambitious players to fight for valuable title norms.

Alongside Group A, Group B offers a platform for young and developing players (under 1900 ELO), while remaining open and inclusive. A particularly inspiring feature of the event is the team format, where players from both groups can form mixed teams and compete for additional prizes – encouraging collaboration, mentorship and connection between the players.

The tournament will take place at Neumaiers Hirsch Gasthof und Landhotel in Weißenhorn-Attenhofen, alongside the 3rd Viktor Kortschnoi Memorial, creating a vibrant chess atmosphere throughout the week.

At the time of writing, 21 players from nine countries are registered in Group A, and 18 players in Group B – and registration remains open. Female players who wish to celebrate International Women’s Day over the chessboard are warmly encouraged to join!

Events like this do not happen by chance. They require vision, commitment and genuine care for the future of women’s chess. We sincerely appreciate the efforts of the organisers – and especially Artur Jussupow – for creating a space where competitive excellence and community spirit go hand in hand.

We look forward to seeing Weißenhorn become part of the worldwide Chess Women’s Day Celebration and to following an inspiring week of chess in March 2026.

Around the world, this initiative encourages organisers, federations and chess enthusiasts to mark International Women’s Day with tournaments and activities that promote equity and strengthen the role of women and girls in chess. The Weißenhorn tournament is a wonderful example of how this vision can be brought to life in a meaningful and lasting way.
