A Women’s Day Celebration in Saint-Tropez with GM Alexandra Kosteniuk

As part of the FIDE Commission for Women’s Chess initiative to celebrate Women’s Chess Day throughout March, we are delighted to once again cooperate with the dynamic organizers in Saint-Tropez for a special International Women’s Day event.

On March 8, 2026, the Saint-Tropez chess club “Les Fous de la Vieille Tour” will organize a special simultaneous exhibition with the 12th Women’s World Champion, GM Alexandra Kosteniuk. The event will take place from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM, with free admission for the public. In case of unfavorable weather, the exhibition will be held at the Louis Blanc Hall in the center of Saint-Tropez.

Set against the elegant and artistic backdrop of the Musée de l’Annonciade, this celebration promises not only high-level chess but also a joyful gathering dedicated to women and girls in our sport.

Promoting Dreams, Talent, and Equality

The simultaneous exhibition will bring together players from the Saint-Tropez Chess Club and female chess players from across the Côte d’Azur region. At its heart, the event aims to promote chess among women of all ages, encouraging mothers, parents, and children to pursue their ambitions with confidence.

The inspiration behind this initiative comes from outstanding champions such as Alexandra Kosteniuk and Judit Polgár, whose careers continue to motivate generations of girls worldwide.

For the participants, this is a truly special opportunity to face one of the most accomplished women in chess history. Alexandra Kosteniuk is not only a former Women’s World Champion but also a respected ambassador of the game, whose career has inspired generations of girls around the world. For those taking part in the simultaneous exhibition, the chance to sit across the board from her is a rare and memorable experience – and for everyone gathered, it is equally meaningful to meet her, share the moment, and celebrate Women’s Day together.

By offering free access, the organizers open the door for the wider community to discover chess, meet passionate players, and celebrate International Women’s Day in a friendly and inspiring sporting atmosphere. The values of equality, solidarity, and creativity are central to the spirit of the day.

This year’s participants will receive commemorative gifts, including a signed copy of Europe Échecs, a tote bag, T-shirts, ChessQueen keychains, postcards, sweets, and flowers.

The blend of culture, art, and chess in the heart of Saint-Tropez creates a truly unique setting for this Women’s Day gathering.

A Committed Organizer for Women’s Chess

The club Les Fous de la Vieille Tour continues to demonstrate remarkable dedication to promoting women’s chess in the Var region.

In recent years, the club has hosted a series of significant events, including the 2025 French Women’s Rapid Championship – Roza Lallemand Trophy, simultaneous exhibitions with members of the French women’s national team, and visits from leading female players. These initiatives, led by French Champion Sophie Milliet, together with Anastasia Savina and Silvia Aleksieva, highlight sustained efforts to strengthen opportunities for women and girls in chess.

Since its founding in 2021, the club has consistently organized public tournaments and outreach events, including annual International Chess Day celebrations in the center of Saint-Tropez.

The FIDE Commission for Women’s Chess warmly appreciates this continued partnership and commitment. Events like this beautifully reflect the spirit of Women’s Chess Day: creating welcoming spaces, inspiring the next generation, and showing that chess belongs to everyone.
