International Chess Day Celebration 2026: Chess for Everyone

Following the incredible energy and global participation of our March initiative, Visible, Connected, Worldwide, the FIDE Commission for Women’s Chess is delighted to invite federations, clubs, schools, organizers, and chess enthusiasts around the world to join us in celebrating International Chess Day on July 20.

International Chess Day is a moment to celebrate the game we love and the communities it brings together. This year, we encourage organizers to make this celebration even more meaningful by highlighting the importance of inclusion, opportunity, and participation for women and girls in chess.

Whether through a tournament, simultaneous exhibition, lecture, workshop, school activity, community gathering, or another creative chess event, every initiative can help make women and girls more visible and inspire future generations to join our chess community.

This is an initiative for everyone. Events may be women-focused, mixed, educational, competitive, or social in nature. What matters is the shared commitment to celebrating chess while promoting a welcoming and inclusive environment where everyone has the opportunity to participate and thrive.

The strength of this initiative lies in its diversity. Around the world, organizers are creating fantastic projects that encourage participation, build connections, and demonstrate the positive impact of chess in local communities. By making these efforts visible, we can inspire one another and show that we are part of a truly global movement.
