The Copa Femenina de Ajedrez Rápido 2025 took place last weekend, on November 8, bringing together more than thirty players of all ages for a joyful and inspiring day of chess in Puerto Rico.

It was truly a day that touched hearts in the world of chess. The event saw the participation of girls and women across different school-level categories, as well as an open section that celebrated talent without boundaries. In this last category, the tournament was honored by the participation of Puerto Rico’s Women Chess Champion 2025, WCM Yanira Rivera.
The atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm, smiles, and camaraderie, as many participants experienced their first taste of organized chess, discovering the thrill of competing in a federated event. Beyond the games, one could feel the hope, friendship, and the birth of many new chess dreams.

This beautiful initiative was led with dedication and passion by WCM Coralys Alvarado Pérez, who serves as Director of Women’s Affairs of the Puerto Rico Chess Federation (FAPR). Through her tireless efforts, she continues to inspire new generations of girls to believe in themselves and make their mark—both on the chessboard and in life.
Special recognition also goes to the impactful contributions of Ms. Eva Galbis, President of Geographic Area #3 of the Caribe Girl Scouts, and FA Rinelly Comas, who oversaw the arbitral control of the school-level categories. The teamwork of this group of women, together with the support of the broader chess community in Puerto Rico, was undoubtedly a key pillar of the event’s success.

The FIDE Commission for Women’s Chess (WOM) warmly congratulates the organizers and participants of the Copa Femenina de Ajedrez Rápido 2025 for creating a meaningful and joyful celebration of women and girls in chess. Events like this continue to strengthen the global movement for empowerment, inclusion, and friendship through the game we love.
