As part of the global Chess Women’s Day Celebration: Visible, Connected, Worldwide, inspiring initiatives continue to emerge from every corner of the chess world. One such event took place in Manzini, Eswatini, where the Trojan Horse Chess Club, an affiliate of the Eswatini Chess Federation, organized a vibrant tournament dedicated to women and girls.

Just half a point behind, Namisa Kuhlase delivered a standout performance to earn second place with 4.5 points, confirming her status as one of the rising talents in Eswatini’s chess scene.
Sharing the same score, Nolwazi Buthelezi took third place, demonstrating determination and composure, winning in the last 3 rounds!
Strong performances were also seen from Nzuzolenhle Makhanya and Akeesa Perera, both finishing with 4 points, while Siphosethu Mkhweli and Tivumile Ngozo followed closely with 3.5 points each. Every participant contributed to the competitive and supportive atmosphere that defined the event.

More than just a competition, the tournament was a celebration of women’s strength, intellect, and courage. Each player’s journey reflected the growing momentum of women’s chess in Eswatini, with emerging talents like Namisa signaling a bright future for the sport.

Reflecting on the tournament, Club Director William Siame captured its spirit with words:
“This tournament was not just about winning games – it was about empowering women to take their place at the table, to think boldly, and to make their move.”
The event highlighted the transformative power of chess as a tool for confidence, strategy, and leadership. By showcasing the brilliance of Eswatini’s women, the Her Move Chess Tournament aims to inspire more girls and women to embrace the game and discover the strength within themselves.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the Trojan Horse Chess Club and the Eswatini Chess Federation for their dedication and initiative in organizing this meaningful event. Their efforts are a powerful example of how local action contributes to a global movement.
Across continents, we are witnessing the steady rise of women’s chess – driven by passion, opportunity, and community. The Her Move Chess Tournament is a reminder that when women are given space to compete and grow, the impact goes far beyond the chessboard.
It connects us. It makes women in chess more visible. And it reinforces what this year’s celebration stands for: Visible. Connected. Worldwide.
